Slovenian marathon season starts on March 12th in Miren with the 40 km race. Record 490 riders last year, how about this year?
Spring is knocking on the door and the weather is improving as well. There may me as many as 10 marathon or gran fondo mountain bike races in Slovenia this year and the first one is very close.
The season starts on Kras (Karst) again on March 12th. Kras kros, organized by Ales.ca-racing and KD Deš Fleš, starts from town of Miren and was the best attended race in the past seasons. There were record 490 riders on the start lilineen last year, many of them from neighbouring countries. It is the place to be for any serious endurance rider. If you register early enough that is because sports are running out quickly. They opened registration a week ago and already sold 200 spots.
The course remains mostly the same as last year with 40km and 850m of elevation, says organization leader Borut Klančič. Depending on conditions it could have more singletrack than last year, Start and finish are in Miren. The location has not finalized but the town has offered the organizers the main square.
All Slovenian top riders are expected to turn up as well as the ones from across the border in Italy. It should be another exciting and tight race.
