In just over a month down Krvavec mountain on a new winding and flowing trail.
An opening is planned on Krvavec mountain for May 7th. A new mountain bike trail should be ready to welcome the riders. A 9km descent called the Pussycat trail. Sounds even juicier if called “the Pussy trail”. The builder Anže Bizjak – Bizi showed me around in winter conditions.
One trail is not a park
They say that one trail under a lift does not make a park. If we count the Bambino trail on top and the lower Rock’n’Flow as one trail then Krvavec is becoming a bike park this year.
The new Pussycat trail is winding from the gondola’s top to bottom station for no less than 9 kilometers. At the same elevation drop of 850m it is more than 3km longer than Rock’n’Flow which was introduced last year. This fact describes it best. It means less difficult terrain, less breaking and more fun for most. Even if you know that 2 of those km are connecting dirt roads. If you feel like pedaling you can repeat the top part by climbing the road (see map).
If Rock’n’Flow is king then Pussycat might be the queen. Or at least the princess.
Signature turns
First thing you notice after dropping into the fresh singletrack are signature turns by builder Bizi, familiar from the Rock’n’Flow bottom part. He just had no room to build them on the top there but here he had more chance to get creative.
Especially in dry conditions you don’t need much suspension and protection on the Pussycat. Coincidentally a XC rider confirmed this during our ride when he wandered into the photoshoot on his hardtail. And confirmed he had fun.
In most part Pussycat is a flowing singletrack, interrupted from time to time by a logging road or dirt road. These interruptions are welcome and the sections in between differ from each other because of the terrain so the ride never gets dull and sections are easy to remember.
Of course there are parts that could scare a novice rider. Some may even walk some short sections but there are not many parts like that.
I managed to hit the hardest conditions on Pussycat. It was wet and slippery but except for some diagonal roots it went fine all the time. See you there, pussies!
