Dry and windy conditions for first act of European DH series. Success for local favourites Jure Žabjek and Monika Hrastnik.

Today the qualification run was held for the first round of iXS European Downhill Cup in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

In dry and windy conditions on a track very similar to last year’s the Slovenian champion Jure Žabjek (Unior Tools Team) was fastest in men’s elite category in front of Czech Stanislav Sehnal (Banshee Bikes / Charvatbros, +3.52) and Polish Slawomir Lukasik (NS Bikes Factory Racing, +4,36).

Slovenian Monika Hrastnik (Črn trn) was second to Italian Eleonora Farina (GB Rifar Mondraker) by 2,44. Last year’s winner Veronika Widmann (FS Patrol Funn) followed in third.

Jure said after his run: “I managed to have a clean run. I will just be adding some more pedaling tomorrow.”

As most others he is hoping for the track to stay dry since clay, roots and rain don’t mix that well.

333 riders from 28 countries were on the qualification start list this year.

Tomorrow (on Sunday) the final run starts at 12.30. You can follow the times live on www.ixsdownhillcup.com/en/Livetiming
