Three day bike festival coming to the picture postcard town on the lake at the end of August, bringing the longest marathon along. See course animation here.
Bled Bike Festival organization stepped on stage on Thursday in Bled, the picture postcard town on the lake. First edition of the three day festival will take place from Friday August 25th to Sunday 27th. It will end with the highlight of the weekend, the mountain bike marathon race on two courses: the 62.6km with 1710m of elevation and the Epic 102.6km with 2904 elevation meters. The Epic will be the longest mtb event ever held in Slovenia.
There will be a number of events and activities on Friday and Saturday for any type of rider including the youngest ones.
Everything we’ve seen so far from the organization crew looks very professional and it looks like nothing except three days of “cats and dogs” from the sky could stop them from putting on an event they already called the largest bike festival in Slovenia. By the number of participants, visitors and exhibitors. And to achieve that they are of course trying to attract riders from across the borders.
There is only little asphalt on both distances and the stress is on the adventure and endurance. Technical difficulty should not be a problem for anyone. “The marathon will take the participants through areas they could hardly find by themselves,” says event director Atila Armentano on some the course highlights.
Much travel may not be required but if it’s ok for Slovenian XCM champ Lenart Noč it has to be ok for us. He didn’t ride the Epic ride but he figures the fastest ahould be able to do it in around 4 hours and 40 minutes.
You can see it here for the very first time.
Mountain biking in Bled?
The truth is there is not much for singletrack explorers round out of the Bled hotels. But the festival is breaking the ice in town as well as out there with the landowners, both Armentano and Tourism Bled director Jaka Ažman agreed.
The festival will also host a trail access debate on Friday.
Registration for the marathon is already open on festival’s website.
