Besides Maribor the Lošinj island race also running for 2018 World Cup. UCI technical delegate David Vazquez visited the venue.
We already reported about the joint bid by Maribor (Slo) and Graz (Aut) to host a World Cup double in 2018 season. There is another event in the region bidding for the same status in 2018.
Downhill Lošinj on the island of Lošinj in Croatia, organized by Lošinj Athletic Club and MTB Trbovlje from Slovenia, entered their bid in August to host downhill race of the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. In September the UCI technical delegate David Vazquez inspected the venue.
The Spaniard, a former World Cup downhiller, had no complaints on the course.
DH Lošinj was held as UCI Class 1 race in 2013, 2014 and 2016. MTB Trbovlje has been organizing national and international races in Slovenia since 1999.
The list of 2018 World Cup venues may become public next week when the UCI Management Committee meets during the road World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
In case of successful bid the 1.9km Lošinj course with 256m elevation drop and seaside finish line in town of Veli Lošinj will be upgraded for 2017 UCI C1 race on April 22nd.
